💧Last week I was in the Netherlands, where it was great to catch up with my microLAN bv co-workers Joep Appels, Jesse Smit and Rick Appels, and to discuss the planning for the Life-Phoenix Project, where we are using the BACTcontrol Ecoli monitor for waterreuse screening.

🇪🇺 As a response to the decrease in rainfall in many parts of Europe, the EU established a new piece of legislation regarding minimum requirements for waterreuse for agricultural irrigation (Regulation (EU) 2020/741).

🌱 The Life-Phoenix Project is co-funded by the European Union under the LIFE program, and addresses this issue of waterscarcity. LIFE Phoenix develops innovative solutions for urban wastewater reuse for agricultural purposes, ensuring the safety of the reclaimed water through continuous watermonitoring, and reducing the pressures of abstractions from increasingly scarce water resources.

🦠 Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of visiting the Life-Phoenix Project demonstrative plant at El Toyo WWTP in Almería, where innovative water treatment technologies are being tested. The BACTcontrol at El Toyo will allow real-time, online and continuous monitoring of Ecoli, thus ensuring the quality of the reclaimed water.

💦 Many thanks to our project partners from Aqualia María José Quero Pastor and Melina Antonella Roccamante who assisted me on site at El Toyo.
